Who is Canine Care Tampa Bay?

My name is Alicia and I founded Canine Care Tampa Bay in 2012. After 10 years of serving our community and a two year hiatus, I am thrilled to announce the re-launch of newly branded Canine Care USA!

Since childhood, pets have been an important part of my family and I would do anything to keep them safe, happy, and healthy. After moving to Florida in 2006, I volunteered at a local animal shelter and was disturbed by the number of pets surrendered due to their owners’ financial inability to properly care for them. I decided one day that volunteering wasn’t enough; I needed to find a way to keep pets out of shelters in the first place. One day after a particularly pricey vet visit, it hit me what would help our community and I started building what is now Canine Care Tampa Bay.

We have suffered through a pandemic. Many people are out of work. Others are on low, fixed incomes or have suffered life events that have impacted their ability to earn enough to cover their pet’s needs. We all know that it is expensive to take our pets to the vet. We also know that when the choice comes down to paying the mortgage or rent, putting food on the table, or getting our pets their annual vaccinations to keep them healthy, sometimes the pets lose out. Even a vet visit to treat a minor ailment like a skin or ear infection can sometimes be too much for a family to financially bear. The result is that too frequently animals are surrendered to shelters, not properly cared for, or even euthanized.

That’s where Canine Care comes in. Our goal is to help pets and people by paying a majority percentage of the cost of a veterinary visit to make it possible for family pets to receive proper care.  We need to keep dogs and cats out of shelters and with their families. We need to keep pets from being euthanized due to their owner’s inability to properly care for them. We need to keep pets healthy.

It has been both challenging and rewarding to create and manage a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. I can’t do this alone and depend on donations and support from the community. If you are able to make a contribution to this cause, please know that 100% of your donation goes toward the health care assistance of our local pets and is tax-deductible.

Whether you are someone who has a dog or cat in need of our assistance, or someone who believes in what we are doing and are able to help, I thank you for taking the time to read this. Together we can make a difference.
